Big News!
MTV has finally gotten off its ass and is putting out one of the greatest sketch comedy show in the history of sketch comedy shows. They're also putting out "The State!" When? July 14th, Bastille Day, which is a French holiday commemorating all the Bastilles. Here's the official announcement from MTV:

Is this exciting? I guess so. Here's my fear about it: people often remember things as being better than they were. The first Thanksgiving, for example. People think, "Oh it was so great." Guess what? There was too much corn, not enough turkey, and a lot of scarlet fever. I'm definitely not saying getting The State DVD is going to cause scarlet fever, but then again, who's to say? I mean, medical science has made a lot of advances over the past three hundred years, but they still have no idea what causes scarlet fever (except for the fact that they do know).
So yeah, the State is coming out on DVD. If you want to see the trailer for the DVD, I've posted it below.

Aww yeah, gonna get me on a boat for this

I purchased what was available on xbox live long ago--the same content as iTunes. I, too, was worried that the leaf had turned on the State, and some of the humor and fashion is rooted in the early 90's but honestly, you kids knocked it out the park. The production value and the energy and performance acumen, everybody always gave their all and it shows through to this day.

That is quite exciting! I'm a little embarrassed to admit, I never really watched it back in the day. I'm not sure what I was doing or where I was even living...upstate NY? So most of it will be new to me. Can't wait!

Oh you bet your ass I'm buying that shit when it comes out. I may not remember much from that long ago, but I know I loved watching The State right along with Liquid Television.
I already am on the 1st to Know list with Amazon. :D

It will be worth all the money and more for the sketch of you running around in a meadow with your toothbrush to "Your Favorite Thing".

@Langor - My first though was about the music as well.
Though having Porkupine Racetrack to play non-stop for a week will likely be worth whatever the cost of the dvd is.
Oh, and how long until the Blu Ray version is out?

Don't worry - it's still funny. (Except for some of the stuff that MTV clearly made you do... like the thing with Slash. And even that is still pretty funny.)
Ok, I lied, actually NONE of it is funny. But see, THAT'S FUNNY because it's not true! It's actually very funny. Now ask me what I ate for breakfast...

There is a God!
...Well, maybe not an old man with a big white beard, but you know...
Nonetheless, this is the most amazing news I've ever come across since I got word that Vince Shlomi was arrested for punching a prostitute. I live in Montreal, in the Great White North, and didn't have access to MTV when the show came out, but much later, me and a friend of mine started watching Stella, and caught up on our "State" history.
Currently, I own Stella, Wet Hot American Summer, The Ten, and even My Custom Van. I've been trying to tell people about this amazing and somewhat obscure comedy troupe (and have been successful to some degree) but can now breath easy that the State is coming out on DVD in all it's Capt. Monterey Jack, Grandma Potato Chowder, and "I'm outta... heeeeeeeereeee" glory. It would be an understatement to say this is the greatest sketch comedy show.
I'm not sure which 2-bit MTV employee finally decided to give it the green light, but I'd like to shake his hand (although not before sanitizing it first. God knows where that's been...).
Either way, I can assure everyone that I'll be picking this up the moment it hits shelves, and watching it ad nauseum, until everyone I know is aware of this legendary series.
While I'm on the record, I'd love to dip my balls in it.
Thank you for this monumentus release.
Just a concern, though, is the original music and soundtrack still intact or have they been bastardized a la iTunes episodes?

FINALLY!
Also: Not sure if it's fate or mere coincidence that July 14 also happens to be my 30th birthday. I can't think of a better way to ring in the big 3-0!
